Exercises One Can Do Right at their Work Desk

Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It can help you control your weight; lower your risk of heart disease; lower your risk for type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome; lower your risk of some cancers; strengthen your bones and muscles; improve your mental health and mood; and improve your ability to do daily activities.

In today’s world we are controlled by time. Many people complain that they do not have time to exercise. But a typical adult at work sits in a desk chair for eight hours every day. Sitting all day increases the risk of obesity, back pain, poor posture and leg cramps. There are exercises you can do right at your desk.

Leg stretch –  While sitting in your chair, extend your right leg until it is level with your
hip. Hold as long as you are comfortable and then relax it. Alternate sides.
Shoulder raise. Raise your shoulder to your ear, hold and then relax. Repeat, alternating shoulders.
Elevated pushups – Lean on a sturdy piece of furniture and slowly push your body off of it in a sort of standing push up.
Neck rotations –  Drop your chin and rotate your neck. Raise your chin up and bend your neck to each side.
Chair dips – Place the palms of your hands on your chair and your feet on the floor. Move your rear end off of the edge of your seat. Bend your elbows and lower your body. Straighten your arms to return to the starting position
